I had a good treasure hunt this past Saturday...I found this mirror for $5.00. On the back it says it was manufatured by Pittsburgh Plate Glass, October 1941. I fell in love with it when I first saw it. I wasn't exactly sure where I could hang it, but I decided to get it anyways. After I got it home I decided to hang it at the top of the stairs.
I also found this great little table for $3.00. I almost forgot to take a "before" picture of it so as you can see it was yellow and I decided to paint it pale green. I've been wanting a small table in the master bedroom to use as a coffee table. My husband thought I should have left it there since it does have a crooked leg, but I think it gives it character. The sweet older couple that I bought the mirror and table from told me they were downsizing. They had lived in a farmhouse but were moving to something smaller.
Julie, now I'm sorry that I didn't buy the rest of the spools...I could have sent them to you! I'll keep an eye out for them again.

Terri and Bob...thank you...I really do try to respond to questions because I want everyone to know that I read what they have to say.

Abbie, thank you, too! I honestly can say that I am no authority on painting furniture. My method is to clean the piece of furniture with Murphy's Oil soap, let it dry and just start painting. I know that one should scrape the loose paint if there is any, but I never bother...I say the shabbier the better! If any one knows of the proper way to paint furniture could you please let me know so I can post a link? Thanks!

Shirlee, I can honestly say that I have better luck at thrift stores than at yard sales. I always get something from a thrift store, but yard sales really are hit or miss.
Lovely finds once again.

I love all of your finds. I have been wanting to use the chalkboard paint on my refrigerator but I love the look with that frame around it. Now I don't know what to do. And your table is beautiful! Just like everything else. A true inspiration - you're the best!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Julie
Love all your finds!
ReplyDeleteI want to come back to the US and go to yard sales with you Kim. You are the queen of bargain finds! The mirror is so pretty. Why would someone want to get rid of it. It looks really nice. Then that table is great. I love how you painted the top but also how you have it with the chairs in your bedroom. By the way, those chairs are wonderful!! Are they are bargain find too or a family heirloom?
ReplyDeleteThe mirror used as a chalkboard is a real inspiration. It looks perfect and would be so fun to write seasonal greeting on. Will you use it for lists or for greetings?
I am a glass jar addict now for my quilt studio. I just received one as a gift from a friend yesterday which is very unusual. I love keeping all my button, trims and pins in them which makes it easy to find them quickly. Yours look wonderful. Don't you love wooden spools. It is too bad we now only have those ugly plastic ones.
I always enjoy my peaks into your beautiful home. Thanks!
I love that table, and the spools are a great find. I love wooden spools but they really are so hard to find.
ReplyDeleteI am tagging you for a meme....see my blog for the rules.
Thanks for sharing, the table looks so nice.
ReplyDeleteI love the chalk board idea.
I have to use that in my new home.
Great find on the mirror. It is so lovely!
ReplyDeleteOh what great finds! I love that mirror and that little table is so cute! I had to laugh about the chalkboard, I recently found one and had the same problem!

I hoestly can't pick a favourite of all your new found treaures. All those wonderful items at such bargain prices. Amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Kim, you found some great things. Love that first mirror & that table is just precious. I'm always a sucker for little tables too & I have bought way too many mirrors during my life. Can't seem to pass them up either.

I *adore* your house. Inside and out. I live in the tropics in Australia, so it is really hard to find such beautiful pieces like you do; it's all very minimalistic here, which starves my granny-chic soul. I was wondering though, if you and your dear husband wouldn't mind... would you be willing to post or email me a rough floorplan of your home? My husband and I are looking at building a home in the next 12 months or so, and we love classic old farmhouses like yours. We have a large family, though, so your home might be a little small, but we were looking for some inspiration for our floorplans.

ReplyDeleteHow have you been? Your treasures are wonderful your home has so much charm to it. You get my award for eye candy and also for finding all these great finds so cheap. Looks great!
I will have to come here more often as now I see what you have been cooking up in the home department. I am happily awaiting for the beautiful Pennsylvania leaves to change, and you are probably also.
Happy Fall!

What great finds! I need to take some bargain hunting notes!
ReplyDeleteHowdy Kim: Thanks for stopping by Meggie's Stuff. I LOVE the photo of your lovely home! I don't know the exact age of my farmhouse. I was told it was built in 1881, but was later told 1851. I just know that it's OLD!! Your mirror was made near my home...Pittsburgh. It's a treasure for sure and I think you found the perfect spot for it. You seem to have a wonderful talent for finding unique things and making them lovely...I'll have to stop by often to see what you're up to next.
